In the latest ICC ODI rankings update,
Shubman Gill has risen to the top spot in the batting rankings, surpassing
Babar Azam. His remarkable performances in 2023, including 1449 runs in 26
matches with four centuries, have catapulted him to the pinnacle of ODI
batting. It's worth noting that his 2023 average of 63.00 is especially
impressive when compared to his overall career average of 61.02.
On the bowling front, Mohammed Siraj has
reclaimed the top position in the ODI bowling rankings. He has climbed two
spots, displacing Shaheen Shah Afridi. Siraj's consistent and impactful
displays have played a significant role in this achievement. Notably, India's
bowling attack as a whole has been a dominant force in the World Cup, with the
likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami also finding
themselves in the top ten bowlers.
Furthermore, Virat Kohli's World Cup
performance has elevated him to the fourth position in the batting rankings.
His two unbeaten centuries and four half-centuries in the tournament have been
crucial to his climb in the rankings. Glenn Maxwell's remarkable double-century
against Afghanistan has pushed him to the sixth position, while Ibrahim
Zadran's impressive campaign in the World Cup has seen him rise by six spots to
12th.
India's remarkable dominance in the World
Cup is evident not only in their individual rankings but also in their overall
performance. They have secured victories in all eight of their league-stage
matches with significant margins, and their bowling attack, featuring the likes
of Shami, Bumrah, Jadeja, Kuldeep, and Siraj, has been instrumental in their
success.
